The New York Yankees The Yankees have had two top-flight agents on their payroll, Andrew Friedman and Todd Rosiak, for the last three seasons.
They signed Friedman in July of 2012 and Rosiak last winter.
Friedman was the Yankees’ top-ranked agent in baseball in 2015, and he also managed the Yankees in the offseason.
The Yankees had three other top-tier agents, with the most expensive signing being outfielder Nick Swisher, who reportedly received a four-year, $30 million contract from the Yankees earlier this year.
The team’s other top signing this offseason was right fielder Mike Napoli, who signed a four-, seven-, and 10-year deal with the Yankees.
The Yankees’ other top free agent this winter was right-hander Jake Arrieta, who received a $27 million deal from the Cubs.
The Cubs were the only team to land Arrieta at the deadline, and the contract will make Arrieta the highest-paid pitcher in baseball.
The Yankees also signed free agent catcher Jorge Mateo, who has a $30.25 million deal.
The right-handed catcher has been a hot commodity on the free agent market this offseason, and his signing was reportedly a result of the Yankees agreeing to a one-year contract with him.
Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox have had a number of solid agents at the front office, with Ryan Howard and Paul Konerko among their top-rated free agents.
The Red Sox also signed veteran right-handers Kevin Pillar and Ryan Lavarnway this offseason.
Mateo, in particular, is a top-notch player in the game, but he was a bit of a surprise for the Red Sox in 2017, coming off a year in which he only played two games due to injuries.
In 2019, he was able to play more games due in part to a shoulder injury.
He was a late scratch for the postseason due to a strained groin, but the Red, White Sox, and Twins all had good seasons in his absence.
Howard was one of the most coveted free agents of all time, but his agent, Scott Boras, said that he would not be pursuing Howard in free agency.
Boras is also the agent for left-handed reliever Francisco Liriano.
Boras told ESPN’s Buster Olney on Tuesday that Howard’s contract will be a good fit for the Yankees, and that Howard would be a valuable addition to their team.
“We feel very good about it,” Boras said.
“We have a very good relationship with Scott Borass.
We believe he has a very solid track record with this organization.
We’re very pleased to have him.
And we believe he can bring us tremendous value.”
Boras said that the Yankees are still hopeful that Howard will sign a deal, but that they are not looking for an immediate extension.
He did say, however, that the club would like to see Howard return to the mound next season.
